Dr. Andrew McKen earned his chiropractic degree when he graduated from the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon with passing scores from the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners in all areas.
He is the newest chiropractic member of Dr. Hatch’s team at the Parker Colorado wellness center.
Andrew met his beautiful wife while attending the University of Wyoming, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. He had the opportunity to run track and field at the University of Wyoming while he attended school. He ran the 110 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, and was a member of the 4×400 meter relay team. Participating in a wide spectrum of sports at the collegiate and high school level has given him the passion and understanding to treat athletes at all levels.
Andrew grew up in the foothills of the Tetons in the small community of Afton, Wyoming. He took advantage of every opportunity to be outside hiking, backpacking, camping under the stars in the summer and sleeping in snow caves in the winter. He was an extremely active kid playing soccer, baseball, and basketball. While in high school, he played football, basketball, and ran track and field, earning multiple All-State honors in each sport. He was awarded the Milward Simpson award, an award that recognizes 5 athletes, regardless of school class, as the best 5 athletes in the state.
After graduating high school, Andrew served a 2-year service mission in the state of Michigan. He spent his time teaching Christian messages and offering service. Alexandra and Andrew welcomed their wonderful daughter Brooke into the world 4 years later while attending chiropractic school in Portland. The three of them spent many days hiking in the scenic Columbia River George, spending days at the Oregon coast, and even camping in the Redwood National Park. Both Alex and Andrew think their love for camping must be genetic, as Brooke loves to be outdoors and seems to sleep the best all bundled up next to mom and dad in the tent.
It is Andrew’s personal goal to bring the healing powers of chiropractic to as many people as possible. As a growing boy in middle school, Andrew grew around 5 inches in about 6 months. As a result, he experienced upper back pain that was keeping him from participating in any physical activity. After a few visits to the chiropractor, the pain was gone! That same chiropractor played an influential role in Andrew’s life as he would adjust all the varsity athletes before their game. He learned first hand that chiropractic is not only for helping people get out of pain, but to help you function optimally. Today many professional athletes rely on chiropractic care to help them perform at the highest level.
Andrew met Dr. Hatch in sunny San Diego, CA while attending an advanced certification course in auto accidents with emphasis added to whiplash injuries. The course added much more knowledge to what was taught in school with how to treat and manage auto accident cases. There are many chiropractors in the Southeast Denver/Parker area, but few who have the accreditation of the advanced certification from one of the leading researchers and treating physicians.
Dr. Andrew is a certified medical examiner by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for conducting Department of Transportation physicals. He takes this responsibility very seriously because keeping the highways and interstates safe saves lives.
